Meet Havenkey

Now a month on from reopening, we are delighted to have caught up with another of our amazing local partners, Havenkey. Essential to keeping things at Bluestone running smoothly, Havenkey provides specialist electrical engineering across the resort - helping us to keep our lights on!

A bit of History

After more than 30 years Havenkey has become established as one of the largest independent electrical contractors in based Pembrokeshire, while completing electrical installation works across the UK, often working on prestigious projects throughout the country.

The business was established in July 1988 by Robin Bradbury and his wife Elaine, after Robin had been working on major commercial and industrial electrical installations for various multinational M&E contractors.

Havenkey is now run by Robin and Andrew Thomas, supported by a team of experienced site operatives.

Getting to know Havenkey

Like most businesses, they've been severely affected by the events of the last year. We caught up with them to learn more:

How has the last year been for you and your team?

The last 12 months have been challenging for the business and our team. We have seen engineers furloughed for long periods as a result of not only forced closures on our clients but also large projects having been delayed or moth-balled as businesses limit spending and review their structure, with the possibility that working from home with minimal office time becoming the new norm. We feel we have been extremely fortunate to continue operating throughout as we service a number of essential businesses including the NHS, Public Health England, and Ocado.

How many members of staff do you have on your team, and how many are involved working with Bluestone?

We have had a couple of staff move on recently however we currently have a team of 15 full-time staff, one part-time, and four apprentices. Depending on project works with Bluestone, day-to-day 1.5 persons are involved with helping maintenance works and programmed works on site. However, for major projects, this may rise to eight or more, for the contract duration.

Currently, at Bluestone, we assist with electrical maintenance alongside the Bluestone electrical staff, LED lighting upgrades, Electrical Condition reporting, and electrical project works as required.

What does Bluestone reopening mean to your business?

As Bluestone re-opens its doors to the public, it allows this fantastic resort to generate income, supporting local employment. It also allows Bluestones to continue with its expansion plans, the future construction projects in turn hopefully lead to our continued involvement with the resort.
