Just a short walk from the village lies Blue Lagoon. It's an astonishing building where visitors can enjoy a wide range of aqua experiences all in sub-tropical temperatures.
Blue Lagoon features an indoor wave machine, a rapids river ride, and two enclosed flume rides that leave the coracle-shaped building and bring you back into the main swimming area at pool level. A lazy river also exits the building to an outdoor bubble pool. There is an outdoor and indoor spa pool ideal for relaxation and fun, two interactive wet play areas – one for very young children, the other for the not-so-young.
There are loungers, patios, observation decks and timber walkways and the temperatures and humidity within the structure will be maintained at constant levels. Overlooking the whole complex are wet and dry café and bar areas, providing good quality fast food and refreshments. In what is believed to be a world first, Blue Lagoon is heated by biomass. Warmth is provided by the nearby energy centre, which is fuelled by woodchip and miscanthus grown by local farmers.
